Muffinnnnnnn Ballot for 2024 Week 7

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 8, 2024, 4:38 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses matter most. I could've made a top 25 where there were no teams ranked above a team they lost to, but with this chaotic week, that would've required me unranking Alabama and Georgia and several others, so I will revert back to my normal rules: If you have the same or better record as a team and you beat them, you must be ahead of that team. Miami is somewhat of a special case, as they probably deserve to be 4-2 right now or 5-1 at minimum if the games were reffed fairly. I knocked them down for basically losing those games, but not as far as I would've and they'll still be ahead of Virginia Tech and Cal if it comes down to that. Something similar happened with the UNLV-Syracuse game, and although those don't appear here, LSU-South Carolina and Tulane-Kansas State are also games seemingly with outcome-changing incorrect ref decisions. As you can see, I do have Syracuse ahead of UNLV, but I didn't drop UNLV as much as I might've if the game was fair. With Liberty joining the top 25 by virtue of being undefeated, for the first time all season, every undefeated team is in my top 25. I wanted to drop Bama/Tennessee lower, but I couldn't justify it. Ole Miss and LSU being left off is no typo, they have proven absolutely nothing, have terrible losses, and no good wins either. The fact that the AP has them in the top 15 is laughable. For the first time since the NIU loss, Notre Dame rejoins my top 25, and with them, Texas A&M as well. That loss still looks terrible, but with so many ranked teams losing, a lot of open spots came up in the bottom part of these rankings. On top of the obvious ones like Bama/Tennessee/USC/Michigan/Mizzou, I also had UNLV, Rutgers, and James Madison ranked in my rankings, and they all took losses this week. Another new joiner to the top 25 is Nebraska, a first for this season and a first for like.... almost any time I can remember making rankings for. Iowa State is chilling in the top 4, no biggie, as the rest of the top 10 collapsed around them. Would they beat everyone ranked below them? Maybe not. Would they compete with them? I think so. They are extremely senior-heavy and have looked great. I touched on it before, but I absolutely refuse to rank Alabama behind Georgia when I JUST saw them dominate UGA. Say what you want about the comeback and the final score, Alabama owned that game. Vandy also owned Alabama right after that, so Georgia should be punished accordingly. I foresee some disagreements about my rankings in the near future, so be sure to tell me how stupid I am!
