quantum_jedi Ballot for 2024 Week 6

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Sept. 30, 2024, 1:39 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses are weighted by the difference in "rank" between the winner/loser and the median team. Scaled such that beating strong teams matters more than beating weak teams, and losing to bad teams is worse than losing to strong teams. Winning is weighted slightly more than losing. Results are now (week 4) scaled by offensive and defensive points per drive efficiencies, and strength of schedule determined by cumulative opponents score. Preseason rankings are weighted by returning production, talent composite, and previous season success. Next five out: Illinois, Utah, Boston College, Louisville, Washington State

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide (+1) Massive win against Georgia in a wildly entertaining game.
Texas Longhorns (-1) Another comfortable win without Ewers. Only dropped because of Alabama's win.
Ohio State Buckeyes (+1) Easily passed their first "test" of the year against a better than expected Sparty. The next four weeks will tell us a lot about the Buckeyes.
Penn State Nittany Lions (+1) Slowly suffocated the Illini. Defense is legit and the offense looks more consistent.
Miami Hurricanes (+1) Survived a wild final play and review against the Hokies.
Oregon Ducks (+6) Oregon looks to be rounding into form after a somewhat slow start to the season.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+4) Terrific win against the Cardinals. As Notre Dame continues to win the loss to NIU becomes even more perplexing.
Tennessee Volunteers (+1) Idle this past week. Move up as others move down.
Indiana Hoosiers (+4) Top 10 Indiana?! The model loves the Hoosiers through their first 5 games. The schedule begins to ramp up now.
Ole Miss Rebels (-7) Ugh, that wasn't pretty. Should bounce back against South Carolina next.
Michigan Wolverines (-1) Another ugly win. Expect another mess next week against Washington.
Missouri Tigers (-4) Idle. Move down with other teams getting good wins.
Duke Blue Devils (+1) What a satisfying win for Duke! Like Indiana, the model is very high on the Blue Devils, but they keep winning.
Oklahoma Sooners (+2) Good road win against Auburn. Red River looms.
Iowa State Cyclones (+4) Completely smothered a lifeless Houston. This defense is for real.
Georgia Bulldogs (-9) The Bulldogs' Alabama problem continues... Glad I'm not Auburn... (May seem like a huge drop in ranking, but #6-#17 are closer together in raw score than #5 and #6...)
BYU Cougars (+4) Escaped Baylor and keep the undefeated streak alive.
Clemson Tigers (+6) Shutdown Stanford after a bit of a slow start. Very possible the Tigers don't lose another game during the regular season.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights (+7, NEW) Gritty win against a Washington team that continues to beat themselves. A 38% post game win expectancy isn't great, but found ways to take advantage of opponent mistakes.
LSU Tigers (+7, NEW) Took care of business against South Alabama. Intriguing match against Ole Miss next.
Pittsburgh Panthers (+1) Idle.
USC Trojans (+3) This is the second LA school defense Lynn has completely revived in the last two seasons. Trojans look like a complete team.
Kansas State Wildcats (+8, NEW) Crushed Oklahoma State. Great response after stalling against BYU.
Texas A&M Aggies (+9, NEW) Squeaked by a solid Arkansas team. The game against Mizzou will tell us a lot about both teams.
Nebraska Cornhuskers (+1, NEW) Easily handled a bad Purdue team. Looks to be an old school B1G battle against Rutgers next.
