Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Texas Longhorns | Texas has been the best team so far this season, they have looked dominant against quality opponents and have been the team to beat so far |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Georgia looks very strong, but their offense hasn't been up to par with Texas so far thus them being #2 |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | The Bucks have been dominant against weak competition, excited to see how they perform against in conference foes |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Bama had a solid victory against Wisconsin and are set up for a huge match up this weekend |
| Tennessee Volunteers | A pretty safe victory through and through against a good Oklahoma team shows how impressive Tennessee is |
| Ole Miss Rebels | Ole miss has the highest point differential of any FBS team and did so against an ACC opponent and a Georgia Southern team that made a bowl game last season. They very well could wind up being the best team in the nation down the line but this top 6 is very strong |
| Oregon Ducks | I believe Oregon is a strong team, but they struggled a bit out the door in their first two match ups. The righted the ship against their in state rivals Oregon st and if they keep in stride they are playoff contenders |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Penn st gets started in conference this weekend with a big match up against Illinois. I am excited to see how the expanded playoffs can change this team's fate. Close to rank with Utah but I have been more impressed with the QB play at Penn St and Utah's Cam Rising has been an unknown so far this season. |
| Utah Utes | Utah impressed against Oklahoma St last weekend in a game that was not as close as the score suggests. |
| Michigan Wolverines | Michigan is sort of tough to judge so far losing to Texas quite solidly, who I believe is the best team in the country but then beating a talented USC team. The wolverines could easily wind up being unranked by the end of the season or they could be #1, not sure yet. |
| Miami Hurricanes | Miami looks like this could be the season where they get it back together. They haven't struggled at all so far this season and are about to begin conference play |
| Missouri Tigers | Missouri looked a bit disappointing on Saturday against Vandy, but still managed to get the win. A performance like that will not get the win in Kyle Field against the Aggies |
| USC Trojans | What to say here, this team took down LSU, blew out the now pac12 bound Utah st and then lost to Michigan. This team has talent but haven't been consistent so far. Close to rank with LSU, but USC holds the head to head win. |
| LSU Tigers | After a week one loss the Tigers have looked impressive with two wins against P4 programs |
| Clemson Tigers | Speaking of teams with consistency issues, this team puts up only 3 points in week one, against UGA admittedly, and then over the next two weeks scores 125 points combined. |
| Illinois Fighting Illini | I have been impressed with this team so far, with two ranked wins and dominant victories against Central michigan and fcs E Illinois they could be a surprise playoff contender if they keep it up. Looking at the schedule their case will depend on three games, Penn st, Michigan and Oregon. Win at least one of those and they have a shot. |
| Louisville Cardinals | Another surprisingly impressive team are the Cardinals who took down a decent Georgia Tech team last weekend |
| Iowa State Cyclones | Iowa St dueled their in state foes and dominated their other two games, still a lot to see for them, but they have time to really mesh with their first ranked opponent not being Utah in their 11th game of the season |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | Losing last weekend wasn't pretty but they have a chance to get back on track against Kansas st on Saturday |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | Beating the aggies and dominating Purdue is enough to keep this team ranked after losing to Northern Illinois |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Defeating Temple is the high mark of this season so far, losing to Tennessee isn't great but the Vol are very strong. The Sooners have Auburn this weekend and after that their next game is the Red River Rivalry |
| BYU Cougars | BYU dominated a good K St team and delivered SMU their only loss of the season so far so this BYU team is a surprise early on |
| Indiana Hoosiers | Here is another unexpected team, while they haven't faced top competition, Indiana has been great on offense and defense so far |
| Boston College Eagles | BC's sole loss comes as a close loss to Missouri and has two P4 victories as well so keep an eye on the Eagles here |
| Washington State Cougars | The Cougars came out of Friday night barely escaping in Double OT against San Jose St, but they still haven't lost and are now set up for a face off against Boise St |
