Luigiatl Ballot for 2024 Week 5

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 22, 2024, 2:07 a.m.

Rank Team Reason
Texas Longhorns Another good, strong performance. Sure, it's ULM, but ULM's not atrocious this year.
Tennessee Volunteers A very nice away victory at Oklahoma makes Tennessee look great.
Georgia Bulldogs With Tennessee securing a great win, Georgia loses the bye week a bit. Massive game against Alabama coming up.
Ohio State Buckeyes
Ole Miss Rebels
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama's not bad at all, but some teams had a great opportunity to impress this week and took it. Georgia will be a big test.
Miami Hurricanes
Penn State Nittany Lions
Oregon Ducks
Utah Utes A great away victory for Utah against a ranked opponent - they look clear favorites for the Big 12 at the moment. Oklahoma State drops out of the rankings, lacking good wins when so many other teams are picking those up at the moment.
Missouri Tigers Yes, Missouri did get the win, but it wasn't clean at all versus a respectable but still lower-tier Vanderbilt; thus, the slide.
Michigan Wolverines The rankings around here are pretty murky. Michigan got the all-important win. Did they look world-beating? Not necessarily, but wins are wins and this was a big one.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Notre Dame proves that they can beat MAC teams after all. Northern Illinois's loss hurts them a bit, but their good play and other teams losing helps contribute to a rise of a few places.
Louisville Cardinals Even if they haven't been tested too strongly, Louisville have looked very consistent, and that's not an easy thing to do in college football.
USC Trojans A close loss to Michigan sees USC drop, although their win over LSU still keeps them afloat.
Iowa State Cyclones Iowa State wins the bye week a bit, as teams around them faltered this week.
Clemson Tigers Clemson has righted some of the wrongs since their first game. They'll have to watch out for a potential trap game against Stanford, who beat Syracuse earlier this week.
LSU Tigers LSU gave a reasonable account of themselves this week, but some other teams just seemed a bit more impressive, contributing to a slight drop for LSU.
Illinois Fighting Illini A huge road victory against Nebraska helps Illinois rise, although both of their 'ranked' opponents have fallen out of the top 25. A very interesting game against Penn State this week, which could tell us a lot about both teams.
Pittsburgh Panthers West Virginia's and Cincinnati's reasonably strong performances actually help Pitt break into the poll, and annihilating Youngstown State certainly doesn't hurt.
BYU Cougars We're left scratching our heads about Kansas State as they get blown out themselves this week. In the meantime, BYU rises, with two nice victories over power conference teams (one away, one home).
Oklahoma Sooners A home loss will always hurt, but reasonable wins over Houston and Tulane and an overall competitive showing against #2 Tennessee help Oklahoma from falling out completely.
Boise State Broncos While Boise State don't have a great win yet, they played Oregon close and have been dominating the stats. It'll be an important game this week against Washington State.
Indiana Hoosiers Indiana can't seem to stop scoring. While it's not the highest quality of opposition, the win over UCLA helps Indiana sneak in, although the Maryland game will be an important test for this so-far dominant team.
Washington State Cougars While it wasn't pretty, Washington State got the win. With other teams suffering embarrassing losses and the win over Washington looking a little bit better, Wazzu is able to sneak in at the last spot. It'll be a battle to stay in the poll at Boise this week.
