133112 Ballot for 2024 Week 4

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 16, 2024, 11:46 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Primarily based off record and win quality, with previous/preseason team ranking, conference, and loss quality also minor factors. For conferences, I tend to favor teams in the P5 heavily, with the B1G and SEC at the top(in that order), then the B12, then the ACC, then the Pac-12. Early in the season, so a lot of this is still guesswork.

Rank Team Reason
1 Alabama Crimson Tide Started off ranked well, still undefeated, and I watched them roll over my Badgers in-person. Am I biased because they're one of the four teams I've seen play college football with my own eyes this year, and the only top tier one? Yes, suck it. And to Bama fans, we still beat y'all in the Civil War, so remember what Wisconsin's sons did to your secessionist ass before making jokes.
2 Missouri Tigers Beat BC in a close game, but one of the few games played this week by a highly ranked team against a good opponent this weekend, and sadly for myself, they probably had one of the best opponents, with BC far better right now than UW.
3 Ole Miss Rebels From a great conference, started off ranked highly, and were one of the few teams to beat a good team this week? Maybe I'm a little too high on the Deamon Deacons, but Ole Miss gets major points from me.
4 Oregon Ducks While they had some... shaky wins to start the season, the Ducks beat Boise St. and Oregon St., two teams I respect enough to keep them ranked highly.
5 Texas Longhorns Ok, yeah, they played a fake opponent this week, but the win against Michigan stays in my mind. Entering conference play, they're primed to rise once we see even the top teams begin to lose.
6 Georgia Bulldogs The win over Clemson is maybe still a quality win? We'll see, but Kentucky also counts as a good win in my books, even if it happened in a shaky manner.
7 Tennessee Volunteers The Vols beat a decent NC State team in week two, decent enough that they're 7th in the nation...and somehow still 6th in their conference.
8 Miami Hurricanes Canes run the state, it seems, staying undefeated, and staying near the top of my rankings.
9 Kansas State Wildcats Winning against Tulane and a competitive Arizona team impresses me sufficiently, and allows the Wildcats to carry the B12 into the upper echelon of the polls.
10 Utah Utes Looking good against Utah State and Baylor, the Utes are in the top 10, and could stay there for quite some time. The B12 looks pretty scary this year, I must say.
11 Oklahoma State Cowboys Arkansas and Tulsa both seem good enough to me to land the Cowboys just outside the top 10.
12 Nebraska Cornhuskers Are we back in the 90s? Running the option and power football offenses again? No, but the Cornhuskers are looking good again, and make it into the top 15.
13 Arizona State Sun Devils An interesting game against Texas State, combined with their win over the Bulldogs sees them ranked, although not too highly.
14 Illinois Fighting Illini Undefeated, the FIBs are making moves! We'll see if they can continue this streak, or if they get sent out of the top 25 again soon.
15 Oklahoma Sooners The win against Tulane wasn't bad at all, and combined with their victory against Houston, it's enough for me to put them in the top 15.
16 Ohio State Buckeyes Nothing against the Buckeyes particularly, they just have only two wins, and two against lacklustre teams. They'll rise if they're legit.
17 Indiana Hoosiers Damn, UCLA got a warm welcome to the B1G from the Hoosiers! We'll have to see how it shakes out for them in the coming weeks, but top 20 for now.
18 Penn State Nittany Lions Same as Ohio State, except they played worse against a better team. Slight enough difference to put them below Ohio State and Indiana.
19 Iowa State Cyclones Only two wins, but one against an Iowa team they put up 20 on, while Iowa somehow broke 15 in that game. I expect them to keep winning, and move up.
20 Washington State Cougars The Cougs are underrated by the media in my opinion, with wins against good teams, taking home the Apple Cup in the process. Plus, for employing the interesting tactic of a five man mesh play, I can't help but applaud this artistic playcall with a top 20 ranking.
21 California Golden Bears Go Bears! Cal is somehow 3-0, making UC Davis look better than Auburn, which is a quality win maybe? We'll see if they can increase the misery of Florida State fans to new heights this week, and continue climbing the polls.
22 Pittsburgh Panthers A big win against West Virginia doesn't count for nothing in my books, and gets the Panthers into the top 25.
23 UNLV Rebels Beating both Houston and Kansas, UNLV makes it into the top 25, with more potential decent wins on their schedule soon!
24 Michigan State Spartans Maryland and FAU aren't FCS, and they've had some blowouts, so the Spartans land in my top 25.
25 North Carolina Tar Heels With a win over a B1G team week one, and having not completely fumbled since then, UNC squeezes into the top 25, just ahead of Duke at #26.
