quantum_jedi Ballot for 2024 Week 4

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Sept. 16, 2024, 9:30 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses are weighted by the difference in "rank" between the winner/loser and the median team. Scaled such that beating strong teams matters more than beating weak teams, and losing to bad teams is worse than losing to strong teams. Winning is weighted slightly more than losing. Preseason rankings are weighted by returning production, talent composite, and previous season success.

Rank Team Reason
Texas Longhorns Texas looks phenomenal through three weeks. Hopefully Ewers recovers quickly, but Arch Manning might actually live up to the hype.
Alabama Crimson Tide After some struggles last week, the Crimson Tide completely rolled over Wisconsin in Madison.
Tennessee Volunteers Kent State might be the worst team in FBS by a decent margin, but Tennessee is showing that they can be a real contender for an SEC title.
Ohio State Buckeyes A bit unfair to drop the Buckeyes on a BYE week, but the teams at the top justified their rankings.
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia, what happened? Carson Beck struggled and the Bulldogs couldn't get much going on offense. Did Mark Stoops surrender by punting late in the 4th quarter? Weird game, possible Georgia is already looking ahead to a monumental matchup against Alabama in two weeks.
Missouri Tigers Faced with their first real test of the year, the Tigers came away with a win against a surprisingly good BC team.
Miami Hurricanes Dominated Ball State. Will the Cal Bears be the best team Miami faces this year?
Ole Miss Rebels Convincing win against Wake Forest. I still don't know what to make of Ole Miss, but the Rebels are cruising.
Kansas State Wildcats This is the Kansas State team I was expecting to see this year. Need to figure out their passing game, but strong performance against a good Arizona squad.
Oregon Ducks That's more like it. The Ducks finally took care of business on the road against the Beavers.
USC Trojans BYE week. Teams around them reshuffled due to strong wins.
Penn State Nittany Lions BYE week. Teams around them reshuffled due to strong wins.
Utah Utes Closing than expected for much of this game. Hopefully Rising can get back to full health soon.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Rebounded nicely after struggling to put away Arkansas. The next two weeks might decide the top of the Big 12.
Louisville Cardinals BYE week for the Cardinals.
Oklahoma Sooners Tulane has given a couple top teams fits this year, but Oklahoma did enough to survive the Green Wave.
Nebraska Cornhuskers This defense is really good. Rhule seems to have the Huskers rolling. Short week until Illinois, but this game will tell us a lot about both teams.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish That was exactly what you wanted to see from the Irish after last week's catastrophe against NIU.
Clemson Tigers BYE week for the Tigers.
Washington State Cougars Aided by an embarrassingly sloppy performance by the Huskies, the Cougs reclaim the Apple Cup! Fantastic win for a program that has done a good job maintaining continuity through the realignment wave.
Indiana Hoosiers Insane how good the Hoosiers are looking with Curt Cignetti now at the helm. It's entirely possible this team is 6-0 when Nebraska comes to Bloomington.
Michigan Wolverines This game was never really in doubt, but not what we've come to expect from the Wolverines. Regardless, always good to bounce back with a win.
LSU Tigers A wildly entertaining game. The Gamecocks gave LSU everything they could handle (and should probably have won), but a late touchdown saved the Tigers. LSU should be able to use the next three weeks to figure a few things out.
Iowa State Cyclones BYE week for the Cyclones.
Arizona State Sun Devils Kenny Dillingham has made huge strides with this ASU team. Good win over a solid Texas State team.
