Due_Connection179 Ballot for 2024 Week 4

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 16, 2024, 5:52 a.m.

Overall Rationale: I watch games all day Saturday then for the games I don't watch I go through the games play-by-play (plus read articles; listen to podcasts) to see what happened instead of just looking at the box score. Every 4 weeks I also do a "reset of my polls to make sure I'm looking at everything from film to SOS to key wins. For my preseason poll, it will be a combination of players/coaches returning + incoming players (recruiting class + transfer portal).

Rank Team Reason
Texas Longhorns Last Week #3 vs UTSA // Won 56 - 7 // They are coming out rolling this season. I think I'm also going to be the next person to jump on the Texas bandwagon this season because after watching them for the first three weeks, it is very hard to find a flaw. New pick to win the National Championship.
Georgia Bulldogs Last Week #1 at Kentucky // Won 13 - 12 // I thought Georgia was going to lose until Kentucky decided to punt on Georgia's 37 near the end of the game. Can't believe that came out on top, but here we are.
Ohio State Buckeyes Last Week #2 // Bye Week
Ole Miss Rebels Last Week #4 at Wake Forest // Won 40 - 6 // If this was Wake Forest from a few seasons ago, then maybe I would think about having an All-SEC top 3, but this is still an impressive road win with how they dominated another power team from start to finish.
Missouri Tigers Last Week #5 vs #16 Boston College // Won 27 - 21 // I think people will not give Missouri the right amount of credit for this win. Boston College has shown up every week this season, and Mizzou held them off for a nice win at home.
Tennessee Volunteers Last Week #6 vs Kent State // Won 71 - 0 // They were up 65 - 0 at halftime and asked to shorten the quarters lol
Alabama Crimson Tide Last Week #7 at Wisconsin // Won 42 - 10 // After struggling against USF in the first half last week, Alabama has outscored USF & Wisconsin by close to 80 pts in the last 6 quarters of football. I'm not fully convinced they are fully back under their new coach, but we will see by playoff time. Also, 6 out of the top 7 being SEC teams is gross, but this will all get sorted out in the next 12 weeks.
USC Trojans Last Week #9 // Bye Week
Miami Hurricanes Last Week #10 vs Ball State // Won 62 - 0 // Went as expected.
Oregon Ducks Last Week #11 at Oregon State // Won 49 - 14 // Impressive win vs their in-state rivals. On the road to looking like a top 5 team again, but they need to build off of this and do it again in the weeks to come.
Utah Utes Last Week #8 at Utah State // Won 38 - 21 // Another concerning game for the Utes, this time being a 7-pt game going into the 4th quarter against Utah State. I'm going to drop them a little bit more, but I still believe in them enough to win the Big XII.
Penn State Nittany Lions Last Week #12 // Bye Week
Kansas State Wildcats Last Week #13 vs Arizona // Won 31 - 7 // Very nice win over an Arizona team that a lot of people were picking to come in and win the Big XII this season. I'm not going to be able to jump them over Penn State right now (because of the Tulane game), but they are looking like a top 2 Big XII team again this season.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Last Week #14 vs Tulsa // Won 45 - 10 // Went as expected.
LSU Tigers Last Week #15 at South Carolina // Won 36 - 33 // I still have LSU as the best 1-loss team in the nation, but their defense is starting to be a little concerning. Not as terrible as it was last season, but we should watch it moving forward.
Oklahoma Sooners Last Week #17 vs Tulane // Won 34 - 19 // Came out on top vs what looks to be a decent Tulane team. Their first real SEC test is this week going on the road to #6 Tennessee.
Iowa State Cyclones Last Week #20 // Bye Week
Syracuse Orange Last Week #21 // Bye Week
Boston College Eagles Last Week #16 at #5 Missouri // Lost 21 - 27 // They came out hot to a 14 - 3 lead and were the better team on both sides of the ball, but then Mizzou took over (mostly on defense) and BC's undefeated season came to an end. Love watching this team when it's clicking though.
Clemson Tigers Last Week #18 // Bye Week // I kind of dug myself a weird hole early on this season while keeping Clemson at #18 after their bounce back win vs Appalachian State. From what we have seen so far, I believe that BC is actually the better team, so I'm going to drop these 1-loss teams a little to keep BC as the 2nd best 1-loss team.
Nebraska Cornhuskers Last Week #22 vs Northern Iowa // Won 34 - 3 // Went as expected.
Louisville Cardinals Last Week #23 // Bye Week
Northern Illinois Huskies Last Week #24 // Bye Week
Illinois Fighting Illini Last Week #25 vs Central Michigan // Won 30 - 9 // Went as expected.
Michigan Wolverines Last Week #19 vs Arkansas State // Won 28 - 18 // I'm only keeping them top 25 because they didn't lose, and out of respect for being the reigning champion, but Michigan fans must know that they are about to fall off of a cliff, right? // List of teams I thought about jumping Michigan at #25 - Memphis & Washington State
