Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Texas Longhorns | I can't help but be bullish on the Longhorns. They look so well rounded and while UTSA and Colorado State weren't exactly a murderer's row, how they took care of business in the Big House Week 2 sticks in my mind as well. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Well that was an ugly game last night. That said, still a dominant defense as ever, and I'll give them some grace since the Clemson win still looks good on the resume. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Off today, but just high on their talent more than anything they've done. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | After the Milton year last year, it seems Heupel has returned to 2022-esque high scoring ways with Nico. First real test this week, but can't help but feel good about it. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Not every day you can waltz into Camp Randall and blow Wisconsin out even if Wisconsin isn't what they were. |
| Ole Miss Rebels | They just seem to score at will. Still haven't faced a true test yet.. and with next game being Georgia Southern we will have to wait. |
| USC Trojans | Idle this week, but the LSU win does look a bit better even if the refs gave them an assist. Next week should be interesting as they take the trip to the Big House |
| Missouri Tigers | Well, turned out their OOC was tougher than expected. Still they survived what may turn out to be a solid BC team. |
| Miami Hurricanes | I guess this week answered "was Miami that good or Florida that bad" more clearly, but still they have the weapons for a big year this year. Next up, maybe a tougher in-state opponent than week 1 in USF. |
| Oregon Ducks | After some near misses, the Ducks put it together in the OOC Civil War in Week 3 (that makes me want to puke.) At least they get a bye before conference play starts in earnest against UCLA (that's a bit easier to type out.) |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Not sure what to make of Penn State between a dominant win at West Virginia or that near miss against Bowling Green. Bad news? I won't get that answer next week when they face who I think is the worst team in FBS in Kent State. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Defensively solid, but can't say I feel easy about their chances. They're going to need a herculean Venables defensive effort this week with the Volunteers and now prodigal son Josh Heupel coming to town. |
| Kansas State Wildcats | Well blowing out Arizona is one way to make a first impression to the conference even if it's a non conference game. |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | Always a weird team to gauge, but I feel like Mike Gundy wouldn't have it any other way. 3-0 is 3-0 still. |
| Utah Utes | Not sure what to make of the Utes, but they seem to be in the thick of it in the Big 12 race. |
| Iowa State Cyclones | A well deserved week off to enjoy the afterglow of El Assico. Arkansas State should be a nice palate cleanser before conference play. |
| Louisville Cardinals | Took care of their cupcakes well. Now time to gauge where they'll actually be at with their game against GT next week. |
| Northern Illinois Huskies | Highest ranked G5 since for now they have the best win of the G5. A good week off to enjoy what is a massive win for the program before conference play starts against Buffalo. |
| UNLV Rebels | I'm just high on UNLV this year. KU is a bit disappointing after actual expectations finally met the program, but Odom has done good work in Sin City. |
| Memphis Tigers | Beating your old coach in a buy game? That's priceless alone. $1.3 million is the cherry on top. |
| Washington State Cougars | Long live the PAC. 3-0 against 2 P5s including a certain in-state rival that left for the B1G. Things are setting up nicely for a possible longshot berth with a favorable schedule. |
| Nebraska Cornhuskers | 3-0, how about that. Things didn't work out in the league, but Matt Rhule can sure coach a college program. Big test this week against Illinois though. |
| LSU Tigers | Refs did provide an assist so I did move them down a bit. Still, a resilient performance. Can't blame it all on officiating when South Carolina had multiple chances to put them away and they didn't. |
| Michigan Wolverines | I'm just not high on the Orji/Warren tandem, and even in two cupcake week performances Michigan hasn't impressed me. They get a chance to do so this week though. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | Followed up that NIU game with a dominant road performance at Purdue. Maybe they should just be a travelling team. |
