Dawg-Bite Ballot for 2023 Week 10

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 30, 2023, 4:08 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Resume, Head 2 head, Eye Test, Who the team lost to, and personal opinion

Rank Team Reason
Ohio State Buckeyes Best Resume with wins over #13 and #12 plus an additional win on the road against Wisconsin, plus they’ve been covering the spread on almost every game since week 2
Michigan Wolverines The most consistently dominant team, and has dominant wins over Rutgers and UNLV who are pretty okay teams. Plus, they beat their 2nd biggest rival 49-0 which is similar if not better than Washington’s victory over the same team.
Georgia Bulldogs Struggled throughout the season a bit, but when it came time to play okay teams such as Kentucky and Florida they dominated. Only reason they aren’t ahead of Michigan is they haven’t been completely consistent and don’t behave their best player currently.
Florida State Seminoles Dominant win over #14, a win over an okay Duke team, and a win on the road at a talented Clemson team. They’ve struggled in one or two games but have more or less found their footing. I’m just a lil hesitant to rank them higher due to the track record of teams ahead of them.
Washington Huskies What have you done for me lately? Win over #6 and picked apart Michigan State and a decent G5 in Boise State but have been stifled or just straight struggled the last two weeks with turnovers and quality play.
Oregon Ducks Oregon finally gets a huge marquee win against now #17 and have also previously completely stomped other teams such as Colorado (and scoring 81 points in a game despite it being against an FCS school is still impressive). Out of the one loss teams, they have the best looking loss and one of the better wins, and they obviously pass the eye test.
Oklahoma Sooners Best win is over #8, and have struggled or looked lackluster against minor competition for most of the season. Sure, they still win by double digits but it never looks impressive, couple that with a loss to #22 on the road they drop. However, the head 2 head over Texas keeps them afloat.
Texas Longhorns Head 2 head win over #9 and for the most part have dominated their opponents outside of Houston. They are now without their starting QB so I’m a little hesitant with them should teams ahead of them lose. Should they move up?
Alabama Crimson Tide Impressive resume with wins over #10 and #20 by double digits and a win over a talented Texas A&M team on the road. Sure, they have some issues and struggles but they have an elite defense and just find ways to make enough big plays to win
Ole Miss Rebels Right now Ole Miss has the best resume overall between the remaining 1 loss teams. They’ve passed the eye test most weeks and have wins over #14 and #25. Plus, they’re one loss isn’t as bad as the next teams.
Louisville Cardinals Louisville has the best wins between 10-12, but the worst loss against a terrible Pitt team. However, they still have dominant performances against #13 and an okay Duke team to fall back.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State objectively had the “best” loss between this grouping but went 1/13 or 1/14 ok 3rd down. They’re offense is anemic against great competition and they narrowly avoided disaster against Indiana. Plus, they have no quality wins to show for their efforts so far outside of a 31-0 win over an okay Iowa team who has one of the most caveman offenses in the game.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish For the most part consistent and dominant. They beat an okay Duke team and decimated #24, along with one of their losses being a last second loss to #1.
LSU Tigers All has no brakes type shi Win over #15 but have lost to both teams ranked ahead of them. Other than that they’ve just basically been offense go brr.
Missouri Tigers Passes the eye test and have a win over #23. Unfortunately I don’t want to have them ahead of LSU due to head 2 head (I know LSU has 1 more loss than them but Mizzou lost by 10 at home plus it just feels right).
Oregon State Beavers Here’s where it gets tricky cause for the most part my reasoning is just head 2 head. Oregon State’s losses are to an okay Arizona team and a vengeful Wazzu. However, they have the same record as both #17 and #19 so head 2 head prevails.
Utah Utes Injury riddled team that still beat #19 and #24.
Air Force Falcons Air Force is honestly just between Utah and UCLA because of poll inertia and I have no other reasoning besides they deserve to be here.
UCLA Bruins No definitive quality wins but have passed the eye test for the most part against good teams they have played.
Tennessee Volunteers Played Bama semi close and have a win over a talented Texas A&M as well as a road win over Kentucky. However, the Florida loss penalizes them a bit.
Oklahoma State Cowboys The South Alabama loss is awful and will likely keep Oklahoma State out of the top 20 for a while unless chaos happens but they have head 2 head over #22 and #23 with the same records.
Kansas Jayhawks Huge victory over a playoff contender and has “better” losses than their rival.
Kansas State Wildcats Pass the eye test with flying colors beyond belief.
USC Trojans Don’t pass the eye test but they still have a win over an okay Arizona to fall back on and they’re still wining rn and there’s not many other teams I feel definitely DESERVE to be ranked ahead of them.
Tulane Green Wave Could’ve taken Ole Miss down to the wire if Pratt was healthy (which is their only loss). However, they don’t have an quality wins outside of a road win over Memphis which isn’t too impressive but alright. You can tell the team has talent but they’ve been on the struggle bus recently. Liberty or James Madison may have passed them this week if it weren’t for both of them not overly impressing me either.
