Dawg-Bite Ballot for 2022 Week 13

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Nov. 21, 2022, 5:44 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Eye test, resume, losses, wins, head 2 head

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs
Ohio State Buckeyes
Michigan Wolverines
TCU Horned Frogs
LSU Tigers
USC Trojans USC has two ranked wins over Oregon State and now UCLA and a 1 point loss to ranked Utah. They very clearly might be on their way to a playoff spot but rn I’m hesitant to put them ahead of LSU because the defense is flimsy. If USC beats Notre Dame next week I’ll 100% give them all the flowers they deserve and put them ahead.
Clemson Tigers My thoughts on the ACC from last week are the same. The conference is weak and a 21 point whooping to Notre Dame did not warrant a ranking above Bama to me last week. However, Clemson showed dominance in a week where every contender struggled, and at this point I’m not gonna deny the fact that Clemson deserves to at least be in the conversation for the playoff. Also, Bama no longer has a better win than Clemson after Ole Miss lost.
Alabama Crimson Tide Bama looked uninspired against Austin Peay and their two “statement” wins are almost losses and they didn’t look impressive. They’re likely a top team in the country but their play just does not show it.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State has dominated everyone they played other than the two best teams in the conference. Despite them having no impressive wins it’s pretty easy to watch them and tell they are a top 10 team. However, the lack of top 25 wins does keep them behind Bama.
Washington Huskies Washington has 2 top 25 wins but an awful loss to Arizona State, that’s why they are behind Penn State. They have head 2 head over Oregon.
Oregon Ducks Oregon has two top 25 wins and a head 2 head loss to Washington.
Tennessee Volunteers I almost kept Tennessee in the top 10 because of their impressive resume (I even considered keeping them ahead of LSU and Bama due to head 2 head) before learning about the ACL injury for Hooker. Without Hooker I don’t think they would beat Bama or LSU again, and I feel like Washington and Oregon would light up that Tennessee secondary; Penn State is just straight up better IMO without Hooker. Plus allowing South Carolina to score 63 and beat you by 25 does not scream top 10. Tennessee is lucky they didn’t fall further than this.
Tulane Green Wave Tulane impressed me with their clobbering of SMU. Their conference is inconsistent with UCF beating both Tulane and Cincy but I’ll forgive the loss to UCF now that UCF has 1 more loss than them. Tulane also has head 2 head over K State.
Kansas State Wildcats Kansas State has looked dominant the past few weeks and all their losses are to ranked teams.
UCLA Bruins UCLA played USC down to the wire and they didn’t move up or down after last week. They also have head 2 head over Utah.
Utah Utes Same situation as UCLA. No reason to move down a team that played a team better than them close.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Notre Dame has looked dominant recently, but are ranked behind the teams ahead because of losses to Marshall and Stanford. They are ahead of North Carolina because of how they dominated them earlier in the year.
North Carolina Tar Heels North Carolina has been flirting with disaster for weeks and their best win to show for it is Wake Forest. They finally lost to Georgia Tech of all times and despite them having 1 less loss than Notre Dame they lost head 2 head decisively and I’m not confident in this team. I did however throw them a bone and kept them ahead of Florida State because I feel they deserve to be the 2nd highest ranked team in their conference after making the ACC title.
Florida State Seminoles Florida State has gotten healthy recently and has looked completely dominant recently. They also have a W over #5 and played #7 close which I feel separates them from Oregon State behind them.
Oregon State Beavers Oregon State has won the games they were supposed to and lost the games they were supposed to and moved up due to teams losing ahead. They’ve done all I could ask out of them.
Cincinnati Bearcats Moved up because of teams losing ahead of them. Played Arkansas closer than Ole Miss did:
Ole Miss Rebels Ole Miss got murdered by Arkansas. Idk if the Lane rumors or the fact that they have no shot at the playoffs affected their poor play or both, but they have no good wins and are on upset alert this week.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Unfortunate tragic circumstances led to their game getting canceled so nothing changes for Coastal. They move up 1 spot because of others losing.
Texas Longhorns Texas has a win over #14 Kansas State and played #8 and sorta #4 close. All their losses are close and could’ve gone either way besides I guess the TCU game. They prolly should have beat Bama, Ewers was injured in an OT Texas Tech loss, and the Oklahoma State loss was to a healthy OK State team. Texas was dominant against Kansas and I feel they are the best 4 loss team in the country. (They are no other 3 loss P5 teams to put in my top 25. They are some 2 loss G5 teams but I don’t feel like they deserve to be ahead of Texas)
Troy Trojans Troy is here not because of anything they’ve done that has impressed me but because there’s nobody else to put here. They gave Ole Miss a tough game earlier in the year and lost another on a fluke App State Hail Mary. They also have a head 2 head win over the next team, South Alabama. Next Up: South Alabama, South Carolina, Louisville, UTSA, UCF, Wazzu, Miss State, NC State, Wake Forest
