Overall Rationale: Quality wins, resume, head 2 head, injuries, eye test, showings against teams higher ranked,
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Georgia Bulldogs | |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Ohio State and Michigan’s resume are so similar but their styles of play are so different that it’s hard to tell 100% who’s better with both of them dominating, so I’m ranking these two specifically over who I thought looked better in their most recent game. |
| Michigan Wolverines | |
| TCU Horned Frogs | |
| Tennessee Volunteers | |
| LSU Tigers | |
| USC Trojans | I thought about moving Bama ahead of USC, but I decided that USC only losing by 1 and them now having a win over #22 should mean they deserve to be ranked ahead as of right now. Plus, despite the PAC looking weaker now the conference still looks fairly strong enough to justify this ranking. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | |
| Clemson Tigers | Clemson and North Carolina are in the same boat as USC. However, their conference and respective blowout losses are not enough to make up for it, even if they deserve to be ranked ahead of Bama. |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | |
| Ole Miss Rebels | Ole Miss has no ranked wins, but still kept it close with a top 10 Bama team so I’m not gonna move them back too far. Since they don’t have ranked wins they don’t deserve to be ahead of 1 loss Clemson and UNC either. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Same situation as Ole Miss. No impressive ranked wins. However, they played #2 close and have dominated the teams they’re supposed to. |
| Washington Huskies | The next 4 are ALL PAC teams. There could be an argument that they all might deserve to be ahead of Ole Miss or Penn State due to them all having ranked wins, but their losses is enough for me to ignore it. The PAC is weaker than expected, and I’m more confident that Penn State and Ole Miss are closer to being top 10/15 teams then these 4. I tried to divide these teams up with head 2 head but found a nice circle of suck so I just ranked them by most recent head 2 wins, which is why Washington is #13. |
| Oregon Ducks | Oregon lost to Washington but beat UCLA head 2 head. |
| UCLA Bruins | UCLA lost to Oregon but beat Oregon head 2 head. |
| Utah Utes | Utah didn’t lose this week but they unfortunately moved down to preserve my head 2 head rule. They looked dominant and I feel bad for moving them down after a win, but they’ll have a chance to shoot right back up the rankings with a win over Oregon. |
| UCF Knights | UCF was unranked for me last week but jumped to 17 after a dominate performance over Tulane and some upsets in front of them. UCF is the hottest team in the G5 rn. |
| Tulane Green Wave | Tulane got whooped, but they only fell 3 spots from last week because of head 2 head over K State. |
| Kansas State Wildcats | |
| Florida State Seminoles | Florida State has looked like a death machine the last few weeks. I was gonna keep NC State ahead of FSU because of head 2 head reasons, but some extra factors like FSU’s injury problems the last month and NC State only beating FSU because they had Leary at the time gives me reason to believe that head 2 head might not apply in this instance. I think FSU would win if they played again tmr. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | |
| Oregon State Beavers | |
| Cincinnati Bearcats | |
| Coastal Carolina Chanticleers | Coastal Carolina finally managed to sneak into my top 25. I have the 2 loss G5 teams ahead of them because I just believe Coastal haven’t really played anybody. Their schedule this year helps them avoid the other top teams in the Sun Belt like Troy and South Alabama so Coastal hasn’t really had any major challenges. Plus, a blowout loss to Old Dominion is miles worse to me than UCF losing to Louisville and ECU, or Cincy losing to Arkansas. |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | The #25 spot just went to the next team up. There is nobody else to put here. Oklahoma State and NC State we’re the two teams I felt were most “deserving” of this spot, and I ultimately decided that Oklahoma State’s depth and injury issues from recent weeks made them look worse than they actually are at their peak. Plus, two of Okie State’s losses are to top 25 teams while 2 of NC State’s are to unranked teams. Next teams up: NC State, Texas, Troy, South Alabama, UTSA, and Liberty |
