chrisb19 Ballot for 2021 Week 9

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 26, 2021, 5:18 a.m.

Overall Rationale: This weekend had a decent amount of chaos and a lot of teased chaos. More in the specific teams.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Folks who don't follow it closely won't believe this but UGA actually needed a bye week after apparently turning their practice facility into an ice skating rink.
Cincinnati Bearcats yes the Bearcats struggled against Navy, but Oklahoma struggled against K State, so I think we're at the point of "a win is a win."
Ohio State Buckeyes This is tricky. Ohio St has a loss against a hit-and-miss Oregon team. But their wins have been convincing and I'm just not ready to put Alabama back in a playoff spot.
Oklahoma Sooners I want to knock the Sooners down lower in the rankings because that game against K State was just deeply unimpressive, regardless of how comfortable the final score looked. But putting them below 1-loss Alabama or even undefeated Michigan...ugh, I just don't know.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Michigan Wolverines God, I want to put Michigan at 4. Oklahoma's undefeated but with ugly wins. Alabama has a LOSS. But I just don't trust Harbaugh. If they beat Sparty, I think it's totally warranted to vault them up to 4. But I need to see more.
Michigan State Spartans We'll find out soon if Sparty is for real or not. But for now I'm taking their undefeated record ahead of Oregon's 1-loss record.
Oregon Ducks 7 point win against Cal. 3 point win against UCLA. Loss against Stanford. I'm not saying that Oregon won't finish a better team than Sparty or Michigan, but right now their wins aren't great and their loss isn't good either. They're a good team, not yet a great team.
Ole Miss Rebels gah, I get that the SEC West is a circle-jerk of Strength of Schedule, but they lost to Alabama, not to Purdue. The game against Auburn should tell us more. But I'm higher on the LANE TRAIN than I expected to be.
Iowa Hawkeyes I like Kirk Ferentz but he's never convinced me he's a playoff-caliber coach. I was waiting for the slip-up this year and it happened. The wins aren't that impressive and the loss is...bad. Given the general chaos of the year so far, top-10 is probably earned, but not much higher.
Kentucky Wildcats comparing UK's resume to Notre Dame's, it's pretty similar. But they do have more comfortable wins with IMO a harder schedule. Slight edge.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Notre Dame's wins have all been close, but their only loss was to the number 2 team. Notre Dame should win out, though.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Texas A&M Aggies
Pittsburgh Panthers
Baylor Bears
Auburn Tigers
SMU Mustangs
Penn State Nittany Lions
San Diego State Aztecs
Iowa State Cyclones
UTSA Roadrunners
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
BYU Cougars
