YellowSkarmory Ballot for 2021 Week 6

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 4, 2021, 3:59 a.m.

Overall Rationale: I try to rank based on resume, which creates some weird results this early in the season. I do not base my rankings off my previous ones whatsoever, as that just leaves teams with worse resumes higher than they should be. MOV does not play much of a role in my rankings, either.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Well, guess I'll give my explanations since I'm bored. Georgia picked up a huge win against Arkansas, which is enough to put them at #1; wins over Clemson and South Carolina don't hurt either, as both have winning records.
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama easily beat Ole Miss, which is a fairly solid win, and is #2 because of that. The Florida win lost some luster after their loss to Kentucky, and Georgia has the better resume in my opinion at this point.
Iowa Hawkeyes Iowa crushed an undefeated Maryland, which adds to their wins against Iowa State and Indiana, though both of those may not be the greatest wins at this point. It's enough to put them over Penn State for me.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State didn't do too much this week, just handled a decent Indiana team, while their win over Auburn picked up a bit more value. They are at #4 this week because of that.
Oklahoma State Cowboys This ranking will probably seem odd to most people, but Oklahoma State picked up a good win against Baylor this week and their win against Kansas State is also solid. I'm giving them the respect that I feel they deserve with 2 solid wins.
Cincinnati Bearcats Cincinnati picked up a win against Notre Dame on the road, which is solid enough to put them here, as a good win like that does not seem to be that widespread among the undefeated teams so far this season.
BYU Cougars BYU took care of business, and their win over Arizona State picked up a lot of value this week, leading them to being ranked this high. An additional win against rival Utah doesn't hurt, either.
Arkansas Razorbacks Arkansas could not hang with Georgia, but their resume is still solid, and they land at #8 for me right now. Wins over Texas and Texas A&M are good, and it's not like Georgia is a bad loss, even if they did get crushed.
Oregon Ducks Oregon could have been up with Georgia and Alabama if they could take down Stanford, but Stanford managed to take it in OT. Oregon still remains at #9 due to strong wins against Ohio State and Fresno State, though the latter did just lose to Hawaii.
Michigan Wolverines Well, it's definitely weird that in my view, Michigan's best win is against Western Michigan. However, WMU is definitely solid this year, and Michigan hasn't lost and has a few other okay wins, so Michigan cracks #10 now.
Kentucky Wildcats Kentucky has definitely gotten over their previous woes across many seasons against Florida, as they picked up a major win against them this week, putting them at #11, as they haven't lost either.
Oklahoma Sooners Well, Oklahoma just keeps winning, somehow. I have to give them credit for staying undefeated, and they did pick up a win against Kansas State that's respectable. Therefore, I have them at #12.
Texas Longhorns Texas has only one loss, to a solid Arkansas squad, and has decent wins against Louisiana and Texas Tech. Neither of those two have done all that much, but they're not bad, either, and those are two respectable wins.
Arizona State Sun Devils Arizona State picked up a huge resume boosting win at UCLA, which throws them into the 14th spot in my ranking. Their one loss is to a solid BYU team, which doesn't hurt them much.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Wake is undefeated, and beat Louisville this week. Not much to note here, they haven't been particularly eventful this season.
Baylor Bears Baylor fell to Oklahoma State, which isn't too bad of a loss, and they are at #16 this week. A win over Iowa State is decent, and they haven't done anything bad necessarily.
Auburn Tigers Auburn bounced back from nearly losing to Georgia State to beat LSU this week, which is a decent win. Their one loss to Penn State isn't too bad, either.
Michigan State Spartans Well, MSU hasn't lost. Nothing too eventful, they've stayed undefeated, though they did have to go to OT against Nebraska. Not losing is useful for being ranked at this point.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Coastal also hasn't lost, but they haven't really done much either. Their game at App State will be the most important resume building game for their season most likely, up until the conference championship game, if they get there.
SMU Mustangs SMU is undefeated, and has a win at TCU. Not much else to say, like the previous two teams.
NC State Wolfpack NC State's win over Clemson isn't looking too great, but they haven't done anything too bad. Their loss to Mississippi State doesn't look too bad either, as Mississippi State just took down Texas A&M.
Ohio State Buckeyes Well, I am not high on Ohio State. They have one loss, to a solid Oregon team, but their best win is against Rutgers. Not exactly the greatest best win.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Notre Dame is fairly similar to Ohio State, in that they don't have a great best win, either being Purdue or a Wisconsin team with a losing record. Their loss to Cincinnati isn't bad either, though.
San Diego State Aztecs San Diego State is undefeated, with their best win being against Utah in OT. Not much to say here either.
Western Michigan Broncos Well, this is probably going to be my most controversial ranking, but I have Western Michigan in my #25 spot. They have a solid win at Pittsburgh, and their one loss to Michigan isn't bad, so I figure they have a pretty good case for my last ranking slot. First 5 out: UCLA, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, UTSA, Stanford
