chrisb19 Ballot for 2021 Week 6

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 4, 2021, 9:02 p.m.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs every week doing this ballot I ask myself why Bama is ranked higher than Georgia and the answer seems to be "tradition." Right now, Georgia's a better team. These two are on an inevitable collision course and recent history says Bama will beat Georgia again. But right now on the basis of what we have to look at, gotta say UGA is the best team in the country.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Penn State Nittany Lions I'm never sold on a James Franklin team but I'm more sold on them than Iowa.
Iowa Hawkeyes Iowa at number 4? Sure, why not. Are they actually a top-4 team? I doubt it! But in this topsy-turvey year, they're putting together an impressive resume...so far.
Cincinnati Bearcats Cincinnati actually has the Quality Win (TM) to earn this spot. Being able to knock off Notre Dame is no small feat. It feels inevitable that Luke Fickell will leave for a bigger program, but it's fun to watch his Bearcats team get right to the edge of the playoff conversation.
Oklahoma Sooners
Ohio State Buckeyes
Oregon Ducks
Michigan Wolverines Jim Harbaugh doing just enough to give his fanbase hope before snatching it away down the stretch. Tale as old as time.
BYU Cougars
Michigan State Spartans
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Arkansas Razorbacks Oof. Arkansas got blanked by UGA, but looking around the top 25 it's hard to imagine other teams would be in much better shape. Pittman's done a great job with them although the schedule in the SEC West (plus drawing UGA from the east) will be brutal.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish "Cincinnati is a quality loss!" Honestly the opinion of a lot of UGA fans is "good, they won't come mess up the playoffs this year."
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers The main difference between the Chanticleers and Cincinnati is a top-5 win. The Chants simply don't have the schedule to make a case for the top 10, as evidenced by the 1-loss teams above them (Quality Loss > no quality wins). But they remain one of the most fun teams in CFB.
Kentucky Wildcats Kentucky beat Florida! Genuinely happy for them since it hasn't happened in a generation. Like Arkansas, they benefit from a favorable early-season schedule that's going to get tougher in the weeks to come. Stoops is a great head coach who's limited by the recruiting realities of the SEC. But he's still winning games he shouldn't against more talented teams, so good for him.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Sure, they've only played ACC opposition. But they're 5-0 and I think Louisville is a sterner test than people realize. I just can't go Quality Loss above an undefeated P5 team.
Ole Miss Rebels LANE TRAIN. Also a sneaky-good defense against teams that are not Alabama. Right now Ole Miss seems likely to finish 2nd in the West.
Auburn Tigers Auburn's got one Quality Loss and is aiming for a 2nd this weekend. Of course an upset against UGA would vault them close to the top 10. I'm not sold on this team yet, but they did play Penn St close. I think when it's over they finish above Arkansas. That game in 2 weeks will tell us a lot about these two programs.
Texas Longhorns Despite Texas's loss, their wins have been impressive. There's stronger offense than we've seen in a long time. The RRS should be a fun time.
Florida Gators played Bama exceptionally close and still the 2nd best team in the East, despite the loss to Kentucky. They're probably looking at an 8- or 9-win season and a decent bowl game.
Arizona State Sun Devils an early loss to BYU is quickly turning into a point of pride for the Sun Devils. The Pac12 South remains chaotic and the Sun Devils are in the hunt.
NC State Wolfpack Yes, Clemson is having a rare off-year. But they're also NC State's only loss.
SMU Mustangs
San Diego State Aztecs
