crownebeach Ballot for 2020 Week ✋✋✋

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Dec. 7, 2020, 9:12 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Warning up front: This is gonna look nothing like my usual ballots. It doesn't really matter anyway, but I've decided to make this a playoff ranking. I don't usually do that but I have lost all rational grounding for my usual "how good are you *really* at football?" quality rankings, so we're gonna do resumes instead.

Rank Team Reason
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Fight me.
Alabama Crimson Tide ND and Alabama are the only acceptable teams in the top two.
Cincinnati Bearcats Cincinnati's schedule has been the same difficulty as Ohio State's but they've played a full season.
Clemson Tigers Top-40 strength of schedule to Ohio State's 72nd. Very, very close resume to TAMU tiebroken by my opinion of Notre Dame.
Texas A&M Aggies Win over Florida quite impressive, Alabama loss not bad. I think the rest of your SEC schedule is mostly bad teams, though.
Ohio State Buckeyes Indiana the only game worth mentioning. I think you're top-four but I don't have much evidence to prove it.
Florida Gators Hasn't really been threatened in any wins so far. A good football team that should go to the Playoff if they win the SEC.
Colorado Buffaloes I think Stanford and UCLA are both good teams, and their wins over Washington and ASU respectively seem to demonstrate that. Probably not playoff good, but definitely good and not strictly being propped up by quality of competition.
Indiana Hoosiers Credit for hanging around with Ohio State, no credit for beating some bad teams.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers I gotta be real, I thought Coastal was gonna get tarred and feathered by BYU. Credit where credit is due.
Iowa State Cyclones This low rank is more about the Big 12 being disappointing than about the loss to Louisiana, which isn't bad at all.
Miami Hurricanes Quietly humming in "we're a good team!" territory because of the lack of interesting wins.
USC Trojans Frankly should have lost to ASU, nearly blew what should have been a cakewalk against my Cats, let an okay but not great Utah keep things close, and what looked like a quality performance against Washington State was mostly Wazzu handing SC the ball over and over and saying "please score more." Not playoff good.
BYU Cougars Still super good, not playoff good, and that's okay.
Northwestern Wildcats No detailed comments. Okay wins, bad loss.
Oklahoma Sooners How the hell did you lose to Kansas State *again*?
Georgia Bulldogs No good wins but no bad losses. Resume purgatory.
Iowa Hawkeyes Very good football team with losses only to other very good football teams.
Oklahoma State Cowboys You can't tell me this team wouldn't be better with Taylor Cornelius.
San José State Spartans Solid but unspectacular.
Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Solid but unspectacular.
North Carolina Tar Heels I'm not a believer and you can't turn me into one.
Nevada Wolf Pack I really feel this is too high but this part of the rankings is a muddled mess and I'm guessing here.
Washington Huskies Stanford is pretty good, hence my generous landing spot for the Huskies, but you gotta beat Oregon or I'm not going to float you anymore.
Marshall Thundering Herd Good record, one terrible day at the office.
