Overall Rationale: I try not to project wins/losses and value what has currently been accomplished by teams. While a team may *look* to be one of the very best, I can only evaluate what their current record is - thus, if it lacks a quality win or a BYE week has allowed others to do more I will rank as such.It is important to note it's only based on what has happened to date. Those who have had an early bye week will get their chance to catch up, and when they do they'll be evaluated as such. Teams won't be artificially ranked highly just because I think they are better. The eye test is a perfectly valid method, but one I do not weigh heavily vs. actual on-field results.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| LSU Tigers | |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Ohio State at #2 instead of the top spot was one of the hardest decisions of the week. The win over Michigan narrowed the resume gap, but I still slightly favor LSU. Had I put OSU at #1 and both teams won next week, I'd have moved LSU back to the top spot so it's negligible anyhow. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | |
| Clemson Tigers | |
| Oklahoma Sooners | |
| Utah Utes | |
| Florida Gators | |
| Baylor Bears | |
| Auburn Tigers | |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | |
| Wisconsin Badgers | |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | |
| Minnesota Golden Gophers | Minnesota holds the H2H over Penn State, but that only comes into account if you believe their resumes are equal. I don't. They're close, but not equal. |
| Memphis Tigers | |
| Oregon Ducks | |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | I have the Irish lower than many due to the lack of a real quality win. Their schedule is typically tough, but 2019 was an aberration. They lost their two key games and hold wins over a lot of teams in the middle of the pack. Other teams have better records and/or with quality wins. |
| Boise State Broncos | |
| Appalachian State Mountaineers | |
| Cincinnati Bearcats | The Bearcats fall, but will still be the highest ranked G5 with an AAC win as a potential win over Memphis would jump Boise State next week. So not much has changed for them. |
| Michigan Wolverines | |
| Iowa Hawkeyes | |
| Air Force Falcons | |
| Virginia Cavaliers | |
| Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns | |
| Navy Midshipmen |
