Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| LSU Tigers | This game against Florida convinced me their offense was somehow underestimated by me and that their defense was probably slightly overestimated.  LSU will take the top spot on account of their elite resume. 42 points on 46 plays. Jesus fucking christ. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Oklahoma isn't allowed to have a defense. I thought those were the rules. They made a Sam Ehlinger led offense not just look pedestrian, but lost. A team that put up 38 on LSU was held to 27 here. Their offense isn't nearly as high flying as one is accustomed to and Hurts was exposed as a passer, but that doesn't matter when his OL is as potent as it is and can create holes for Kennedy Brooks and Hurts to run through forever and CeeDee Lamb can create receiving touchdowns regardless of what Hurts does. He is the best WR in the country. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Ohio State is the most complete team in college football and I am terrified. They look like they've been coasting but at the same time murdering fools. Justin Fields is just as good as I thought, perhaps a shade better. JK Dobbins is as well, and one of the RBs I regret missing out on the most. Their defense has performed largely well. Their resume is a bit lacking, but they look phenomenal. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Their defense is actually looking more suspect than I expected. I thought most of their fans were just being silly when they bitched about it, but they were not able to pick off Kellen Mond and gave up 400 yards of offense on 70 plays. That's a decent performance, but not the defensive performance we're used to. They do have the best WR corps in the country though, though the best WR is on Oklahoma's team. |
| Wisconsin Badgers | Their offense put up a lot of points on a stout Michigan St defense and held their admittedly pedestrian offense to nothing. They are a scary team. |
| Clemson Tigers | Trevor Lawrence seems to be in a sophomore slump, though Etienne is keeping the offense churning. Their poor offensive showings against UNC and A&M leaves room for real questions, though. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | I am not sold on Penn St as a team, but they are 6-0 with some decent wins, so I'll leave them at 7 for now. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | I don't view Georgia and Notre Dame's resumes as similar so I don't evaluate head to head as a tiebreaker for now.  |
| Texas Longhorns | Texas performed about as well as I'd expect the #9 team to perform against the #1 and the #2 teams in the country as they keep it close before eventually losing by a touchdown following a failed recovery of beautiful onside kicks by Dicker. Their defense was terrible between the 20s, but was great in the red zone for the most part, forcing two turnovers. Multiple missed tackles were the name of the game. Special teams blunders occur again, potentially having cost the Longhorns big due to bad field position as a result of multiple poor return decisions. Dicker continues to be money when needed. The surprise issues were on the offensive side. The OL got manhandled. Sam held the ball too long and looked lost. WRs couldn't get open much.  |
| Florida Gators | Florida's offense still blows but their defense performed relatively well, holding LSU to three fewer points than Texas did. Due to performance against a common opponent, I give the #9 spot to Texas. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | A truly humiliating loss to SCAR. Fromm is overrated and I've been saying that since last year. |
| Auburn Tigers | Despite their anemic offense, their defense is still elite and managed to triumph over Oregon. I do have to give them credit for that in terms of resume and I don't Oregon has impressed me enough for me not to evaluate H2H in Auburn's favor. |
| Oregon Ducks | A dominant performance over CU, completing shutting down Laviska Shenault (or at least relatively speaking, the dude still put up 70 yards, but no TDs and only 4 catches). |
| Baylor Bears | Rhule has really turned Baylor around. A very sound defense and despite an uncharacteristic performance from Charlie Brewer they also have a very good offense. |
| Boise State Broncos | Mostly climbing due to others losing rather than doing much to impress me. Not really sure how to treat the Broncos. |
| SMU Mustangs | |
| Missouri Tigers | |
| Cincinnati Bearcats | |
| Utah Utes | |
| Michigan Wolverines | |
| Arizona State Sun Devils | |
