f0gax Ballot for 2018 Week 15 & Bowls

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Dec. 2, 2018, 8:19 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Once again the four spot comes down to UCF, Oklahoma, and Ohio State. And once again, all of the numbers I'm looking at say OU should get it. They fared better against their common opponents with OSU and UCF. Based on my own rankings, OU also has the best SoS. But man is OU's defense bad. S&P+ has them at 84 while OSU is 35 and UCF is 29. UCF is still undefeated, like 25 in a row or whatever it is. That counts for something. OU's loss is better than OSU's, but OSU has better wins overall I think. I do not envy the committee right now. If they're just going by "best" then I think they have to lean OU - but putting them up against Bama could be a blood bath early. UCF could probably hang with Bama for a quarter or two, but then athlete levels will kick in and Bama pulls away. OSU is a bit murkier I think. When they're on, they're way on. But when they're off... hoo boy. So of we're talking about who might be able to make a game of it with Bama I think the nod goes to OSU. As a result I'm going OSU, UCF, OU. (Note: This talk of putting UGA in is silly - they have two losses including a loss on Saturday to a team that is definitely in the playoff. So I'm not even going to entertain that idea.)

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide
Clemson Tigers
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Ohio State Buckeyes
UCF Knights
Oklahoma Sooners
Washington Huskies
Georgia Bulldogs
Michigan Wolverines
Florida Gators Homerism Alert: Is UF really the 10th best team? Maybe not. But all of our losses are to teams that are fairly well regarded by most ranking systems (human and computer). We have 9 wins and of the twelve 9 win teams I think we're toward the top of that heap. Real talk, I think that if we make it to the NY6 our prospective opponents will be challenging. Michigan could definitely exploit each and every weakness we have on both sides of the ball. And UCF has an offense that matches up well against our defense. This will sort itself out by the end of bowl season.
Penn State Nittany Lions
Boise State Broncos
Utah State Aggies
LSU Tigers
Fresno State Bulldogs
Washington State Cougars
Syracuse Orange
Utah Utes
Texas Longhorns
Missouri Tigers
Appalachian State Mountaineers
UAB Blazers
Army West Point
Cincinnati Bearcats
Kentucky Wildcats
