Charlemagne42 Ballot for 2018 Week 13

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Nov. 19, 2018, 12:19 p.m.

Overall Rationale: See previous ballots

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide 4721
Clemson Tigers 4430
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 4327
Georgia Bulldogs 3980; Georgia (and the rest of the SEC) moved *up* during cupcake week, despite this being a SoR-based poll. Why? Because the SEC already has lots of wins over each other, so by beating cupcakes, they make everyone who beat them look slightly better. Multiply by 14.
Michigan Wolverines 3462
Oklahoma Sooners 3267; That Jayhawk-flavored cupcake went down the wrong way, and almost lost them a spot to UCF.
UCF Knights 3201; They're riding high pretty much on their record alone. The fact that they're undefeated is the difference between them being 7 or, like, 14.
LSU Tigers 3192; Huge gap between LSU and Ohio State below is partly due to SEC cupcake circlejerk weekend, partly because Ohio State almost lost to Maryland.
Ohio State Buckeyes 2796
Boise State Broncos 2765; Boise is climbing fast because Troy and Fresno are doing so well. Beat Utah State this weekend, and they'll cement their place right up there with UCF. See, Knights, all you have to do is schedule well and play the good half of your conference. The Broncos soaked two losses and are still right up there with the two-loss P5 teams.
Washington State Cougars 2710; Another huge gap after Wazzu. 1-11 are the great teams and also LSU. 12+ are the good teams, but not great teams.
Texas Longhorns 2382; You might even say the teams at 12+ aren't... *back*
Utah State Aggies 2363
Kentucky Wildcats 2297; Again, benefiting from the SEC cupcake circlejerk bump
Penn State Nittany Lions 2216; Just kinda meaninglessly floating around, struggling a bit with the bad teams left on their schedule. Nothing left to play for. Better luck next year.
Florida Gators 2201
West Virginia Mountaineers 2110; That loss hurt. No more playoff chances. The best they could do is play spoiler to Oklahoma and then Texas.
Texas A&M Aggies 2070; What an SEC bump! Also, that win over formerly 9-1 UAB was pretty decent.
Fresno State Bulldogs 2066
Pittsburgh Panthers 2019; representing the narrative theme of "next year is our year"
Troy Trojans 1898; Big difference from Pitt above them, but the Trojans have quietly put together a very nice season. Play-in for the Sun Belt title game this weekend against App State. Who is *not* ranked.
Army West Point 1878; Holy wow. What a season. This computer has had them ranked most weeks, and it's good to see that the AP and Coaches' and CFB polls are finally catching on. Looking forward to an Army-Navy game in which the Black Knights are heavy favorites to go 10-2 for the second season in a row.
Michigan State Spartans 1824; This one is a bit suspect. A five-loss team? Really, computer? One that just lost to Nebraska 6-9? I guess it really loves the wins over Utah State and Penn State.
Cincinnati Bearcats 1801
Duke Blue Devils 1785; Next 15 out: #26 UAB (1773), #27 Missouri (1771), #28 Washington (1760), #29 Oklahoma State (1740), #30 Mississippi State (1739), #31 Buffalo (1732), #32 Auburn (1723), #33 Utah (1711), #34 Syracuse (1710), #35 Northwestern (1667), #36 Appalachian State (1641), #37 Iowa State (1567), #38 Purdue (1553), #39 Georgia Southern (1536), #40 North Carolina State (1475)
