Ghost_of_Dude Ballot for 2017 Week 11

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Nov. 6, 2017, 8:04 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Rankings are a blend of resume and eye test, and advanced metrics (S&P, Massey, etc.) are used to fill in the gaps. NEXT TEN OUT: LSU, Toledo, Arizona, Boise State, Stanford, Northwestern, Army, San Diego State, South Carolina, SMU, Houston. DROPPED OUT: Stanford, Arizona, LSU

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide The Tide fared well against a stout LSU team, but the LSU defense showed that Alabama's offense can be slowed down against a good defense, which is something they'll need to watch out for down the final stretch.
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia left some points on the board against South Carolina but otherwise cruised to a win.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish The Irish put on an offensive clinic against the Demon Deacons, but the usually sound defense gave up a lot of yards and points. They'll need to shore up some of those issues before their showdown with the Hurricanes this weekend.
Clemson Tigers Clemson notched a great win on the road against the Wolfpack who gave them a hell of a fight. The Tigers seem to have a date with the Hurricanes for what could very well be a Playoff elimination game for the ACC Championship
Oklahoma Sooners I doubted Oklahoma for the past several weeks. Their defense still looks pretty terrible, but you can't exactly beat the Sooners if you can't outscore them. Baker Mayfield and the Sooners have another huge test against TCU this weekend.
Miami Hurricanes Miami finally convinced me of their worth with a sound victory against the Hokies. They'll have their hands full with seemingly unstoppable Notre Dame this weekend.
TCU Horned Frogs TCU's offense was a bit lackluster against the Longhorns but their defense stepped up and made it so that it didn't need to be impressive. They'll need to put up some points this weekend against the Sooners if they want to get a W.
Wisconsin Badgers Another week, another Badger win against an inferior team. However, this week we may finally seem them tested against an Iowa team that just wiped the Buckeyes off the face of the earth.
Washington Huskies Outside of a catastrophic loss to ASU, the Huskies are handling business.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Oklahoma State was an overthrown ball on 4th down away from potentially beating their hated rivals. If Oklahoma downs TCU, they may get another shot at them.
UCF Knights The committee is criminally underrating this team in my opinion. Nothing they can really do about it except win out and prove them wrong in the NY6 slot.
USC Trojans USC took care of Arizona and Darnold looked great. Don't count them out of the conference race just yet.
Ohio State Buckeyes Holy shit guys, what the fuck was that?  That was probably the worst display of an Urban Meyer Buckeye team. Yes, even worse than 31-0. Play like that against Sparty and you'll be crushed. Shit, play like that against any decent team and you'll be crushed.
Penn State Nittany Lions 2 heartbreaking losses in a row, and their playoff chances are officially doomed.
Auburn Tigers Auburn's toughest tests are right around the corner. Playoff isn't completely out of the realm of possibility, but they'll need the backing of extreme chaos.
Virginia Tech Hokies Virginia Tech was soundly handled by the Hurricanes, and will likely resign themselves now to a consolation bowl.
Memphis Tigers The last good team standing between Memphis and a conference title game spot looms this weekend in SMU.
Michigan State Spartans Okay, I underestimated Sparty. This team ain't to be overlooked, and they have their shot at (probably) winning the B1G East against an Ohio State team reeling from a fresh blasting of their ass.
NC State Wolfpack It's hard to fault them for playing Clemson right down to the wire. This is about how I'd expect them to perform against a top 5 team.
Iowa Hawkeyes This team looked goddamn unstoppable against Ohio State. Jesus.
Washington State Cougars WSU recovered some dignity with a solid win over Stanford to hang around in the top 25.
Michigan Wolverines The Wolverines got their best win of the season watching from home as the Buckeyes got ruined.
West Virginia Mountaineers West Virginia creeps back into the top 25 after crushing the dreams of Iowa State fans thinking of a conference championship.
Mississippi State Bulldogs Mississippi State won but they looked like shit doing it against a really bad team.
Iowa State Cyclones You were the chosen ones. You were supposed to rock the world with your upsets. Instead now you are the upsetee.
