Ghost_of_Dude Ballot for 2017 Week 8

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 16, 2017, 4:18 p.m.

Overall Rationale: I rank the teams that I think are best. Period. NEXT TEN OUT: San Diego State, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Virginia, Boise State, LSU, Wake Forest, Iowa State, Navy. DROPPED OUT: San Diego State, Texas Tech, Navy

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide With chaos all around, Alabama stands tall with another bashing of an SEC opponent. And people were wondering why so many pollsters were lax to boot them out of the top spot.
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia took a bit to pull away from Mizzou, but the game never really looked to be at risk. Georgia seems to be on a collision course with a likely undefeated Tide. A #1 12-0 vs. #2 12-0 SEC Championship would be crazy hype.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State is probably thankful they were able to avoid the mid October chaos. They probably aren't thankful that their next three games are all against top 20 teams, including a road match against a revenge seeking Ohio State team.
TCU Horned Frogs TCU cruised against Kansas State in a gauntlet delay laden 7 hour shitfest, but they now find themselves in the top 5 after chaos reigned. All they have to do now is keep winning.
Ohio State Buckeyes They aren't playing particularly great teams, but boy do they ever look good while flaying them. This team is super hot entering their bye week, and they have that week to prepare for their huge matchup against Penn State. As a note, they have jumped Wisconsin after performing better against their common opponent, Nebraska.
Clemson Tigers That was not pretty. At all. I'm choosing to believe that this game was a fluke, because Clemson has shown they're more than capable of beating good teams.
Wisconsin Badgers Another week, another poll where I still don't know how good Wisconsin is.
Miami Hurricanes Miami had themselves quite the tussle with Georgia Tech, but they came out victorious in the end. Georgia Tech isn't a slouch of a team, so they don't really get dinged hard for a close game.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Oklahoma State rolled Baylor and gain themselves a couple spots due to others' misfortunes.
Oklahoma Sooners Iowa State honestly looks like a solid team, and the Sooners took care of business against Texas. Ohio State rolling teams makes their win over them look pretty good too.
USC Trojans The win over Utah was decent, but after Wazzu got curb stomped, that loss looks a lot worse.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Gets the leap over VT with Clemson losing (hurting the perception of VT a bit) while Georgia keeps winning big.
Virginia Tech Hokies Tech had an off week. Not much to say here.
UCF Knights UCF looks absolutely terrifying. This may honestly be a top 10 team. If they roll Navy like they did Memphis, we may need to start considering them being playoff worthy if they go 12-0 with the conference championship. Right now, they need to hope and pray that USF meets them undefeated.
Washington Huskies Washington gets dinged hard for their loss to ASU. Everything up to Stanford was supposed to be a relative cakewalk, and without really any quality wins, this team doesn't seem nearly as good as once thought. The offense looked helpless.
Washington State Cougars I wanted you to buck expectations and make the playoff Wazzu. Instead you turned the ball over 7(!) times and got obliterated by Cal. There were a lot of bad bounces so to speak this game, but the fact of the matter is that they lost by 34 to a team that their rivals beat by 31. Not a good look.
NC State Wolfpack With Clemson falling, NC State suddenly finds themselves in a good position to make a playoff run. They have some work ahead of them though, including Clemson themselves.
Michigan Wolverines Michigan survived a nail biter against a tough Indiana team. That offense needs some serious work.
USF Bulls Still underwhelmed by the Bulls. But if they can go undefeated and beat a really hot looking UCF team, they'll be the easy choice for the NY6 boll. Playoffs are probably out of the question for them now though.
Stanford Cardinal Bryce Love is a god.
Michigan State Spartans Solid win against a decent Minnesota squad. Bigger games loom ahead.
Auburn Tigers lol
West Virginia Mountaineers I'm struggling to understand why computers are so down on this team. Two 7 point losses against two very good teams, big wins against inferior opponents, and now a quality win against Texas Tech.
Iowa Hawkeyes Two close losses to two ranked teams, and a win over a possibly underrated Iowa State team. Less "this team is one of the best 25" and more "who deserves to go above them?"
Memphis Tigers I'm gonna be honest, I struggled to decide who to put here. There may be somebody more deserving, but Memphis just pulled out a good win against Navy and outside of getting thoroughly beaten by UCF, they've looked good. So, yeah, I guess this works. Fuck if I know.
