Ballot Type: Human
Submitted: Nov. 14, 2016, 1:32 p.m.
Overall Rationale: Used a combination of personal opinion, the Massey Composite, and my Elo-ish ratings to fill out my ballot this week to have a moderating influence on my ballot, which was just a little too controversial for my liking.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Alabama Crimson Tide | At this point there's absolutely zero reason to believe Alabama isn't the #1 team in college football. The Bama Death Star is in full gear and it's a scary, scary thing to behold. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | The Penn State loss was an aberration, the Baby Buckeyes are back on the "KILL EVERYONE" train, even if their opponents have been minnows, relatively speaking. |
| Michigan Wolverines | Michigan looked like the clear #2 before this week's stunning loss to a pretty meh Iowa team. That being said, I think that performance was a bump in the road, not a head on collision. |
| Clemson Tigers | Like Michigan, it's probably more of a blip that they lost to Pittsburgh instead of a sign of things to come. They still hold the head to head vs. Louisville, and I'm not sure you can ignore that at this point. |
| Louisville Cardinals | The Wake win wasn't anywhere near as impressive as the final score looks, and they've struggled with some meh ACC teams (Virginia, Louisville) |
| Wisconsin Badgers | The Badgers almost always seem to fly under the radar. This is a team who only has 2 losses, one by 7 to Michigan and one by 7 in OT to Ohio State. This is a really, really good football team. |
| USC Trojans | USC? Here? At 7? You're crazy. Or am I. USC looks like they've finally turned the corner after a really bad start and the look like the team I thought they could be in the preseason. |
| Washington Huskies | Washington is still a great football team that just ran into a more talented one in USC. They'll be okay. |
| Washington State Cougars | Three words. Lit. Apple. Cup. Washington State has peeled off 8 straight wins after their 0-2 start and look really great. According to my computer, I'm actually underrating them here, but this will be one of my more controversial picks. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Kids, let this be a lesson to you all. If James Franklin can go from "basically fired" to "hey, they may actually have a chance at getting into the College Football Playoff" in a matter of 6 weeks, you too can accomplish your dreams. |
| Colorado Buffaloes | Give Mike McIntyre coach of the year honors, please. The Buffs are back and oh my god it's the 1990's again WHY ISN'T RUGRATS AND CATDOG ON MY TV |
| LSU Tigers | BUT AUBURN BEAT LSU WHY ARE THEY AHEAD OF THEM. First off, lets be real, if Les Miles knew what a clock was they'd have won that game and although they couldn't muster any offense against LSU, they've been dominant the last few weeks, so this seems like a good spot. |
| Florida State Seminoles | Florida State's got an interesting resume and went down to the wire with Clemson but that murd...I mean blowout loss to Louisville and that head scratcher losss to UNC say you're about here. |
| Auburn Tigers | welp Auburn's offense decided to go back to shit mode during that Georgia game and that's why Alabama's gonna win the SEC again PAWL DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE AWBARN DID AGAIN PAWL. Like the other teams at the top with a headscratcher, the Georgia game feels more like a weird aberration than a trend. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | OOOKKKLLLAAAHOOOMMA WHERE THE WIND COMES SWEEPIN DOWN THE PLAINS. I like OU. I really do. My computer doesn't though, but that's the outlier. OU's a good football team and I expect them to beat WVU and win the Big XII. |
| Stanford Cardinal | It feels like people just kind of gave up on Stanford after the drubbing they took up in Seattle by Washington. None of their losses in terms of the quality of the teams played have been bad, but they've been blown out twice. Still, this isn't a *bad* football team. |
| Nebraska Cornhuskers | Are you the Nebraska that went to OT with a good Wisconsin team, or are you the team that got murked by Ohio State? Who knows, but that means I think you're in that 16-25 range where you're not elite, but on your best day you're still a pretty good football team. |
| Utah Utes | Utah isn't the most glamours of squads but at 8-2, a close loss to Washington and an amazing last minute drive to beat USC, this is a good football team. |
| Texas A&M Aggies | LET THAT BE A LESSON TO TEXAS A&M THAT YOU DON'T MESS WITH THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI. Seriously, if college football was a Jim Cramer show, he'd be hitting the sell button so fast on Texas A&M. However, unlike Jim Cramer I like to get things right occasionally and I still think A&M is okay, so here you go. |
| West Virginia Mountaineers | This is a team the Massey Composite and my ratings are somewhat divided on. My ratings say WVU is fringe top 25, the Massey Composite say you're around 17th. In my watching of West Virginia, I haven't been overly impressed with them, but they're 8-1 and really there's not much else good behind them. |
| Western Michigan Broncos | ROW THE MOTHERFUCKING BOAT. PJ Fleck has done a great job with the Broncos this year, but they were less impressive this week. Kent State kept it close. Ultimately, the Broncos pulled away, but after weeks of being high on them, I'm probably going to be lower than what r/cfb will be, so I agree with my personal ratings that have them here at 20th. |
| Boise State Broncos | Boise State is gonna be in a dogfight with WMU for that G5 spot in the NY6 bowls. They don't have the greatest SOS in the world, but a 3 point win against my newest darlings in Washington State keep them up here for me, even though the Wyoming loss now looks not so good. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | TALK TO YOUR KIDS ABOUT TENNESSEE APPEARING IN THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME GO VAWLS. Seriously though, the team looks as good on offense as they have all season, but defensive depth concerns are starting to show, meaning that they could suffer a loss if either Missouri or Vanderbilt can choke Tennessee's offense up enough. |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | Mike Gundy's mullet is spectacular, and so is Oklahoma State's 6 game winning streak, even if it hasn't been against the best competition. The last two weeks should give us a better picture of OK State. |
| Florida Gators | christ the SEC East is so bad why does it have to be so bad. Honestly, this feels like a default pick to me. I don't think Florida's bad, I just don't think they're very good but I don't know who else to put here. Troy is probably gonna get some love here, maybe Minnesota, maybe even a team like Iowa, but Florida is better than all those teams, I think. |
