monkeymatt1836 Ballot for 2016 Week 5

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 25, 2016, 9:25 a.m.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama beat MACtion Kent State 48-0. The end.
Louisville Cardinals Lamar Jackson and co. put up a ton of points on an inferior Marshall. Business as usual.
Ohio State Buckeyes Ohio State did not lose their BYE
Houston Cougars Houston put up a ton of points and took care of business against a bad Texas State team.
Stanford Cardinal Stanford gritted out a tough road win against a solid UCLA squad. The Cardinal didn't score a TD until the last 25 seconds of the game, but they still won the game. Christian McCaffrey had an average day of 165 (by his standards). There was a nice little backdoor cover by Stanford, who had a fat man defensive TD as the clock expired. Stanford is still the team to beat in the PAC12. Huge game in Seattle next Friday night against UW.
Clemson Tigers Clemson ran through Georgia Tech in the first half, and then forget they had to play two halves. After 4 weeks, Clemson is still an enigma to many. They show flashes of last year, but at times they just look bad. DeShaun Watson is not playing anywhere near the level he did last year. That being said, they are still 4-0 and have taken care of business. Huge hoe game next week as Lamar Jackson and his Louisville team come to Death Valley.
Wisconsin Badgers The Badgers dismantled Michigan State in their own house 30-6. Not many teams go into East Lansing and beat the Spartans by 4 scores. In what many thought would be a down year, Wisconsin is rolling. As of now they look to be the team to beat in the Big Ten West. They face a gauntlet in October though, which will definite the 2016 Wisconsin Badgers.
Michigan Wolverines Many people in the Big Ten do not like Michigan. Many people in the Big Ten were probably not upset that Michigan blew out Penn State 49-10. Michigan simply outclassed the Nittany Lions. Michigan faces their first true test when Wisconsin comes to Ann Arbor next week.
Texas A&M Aggies Look out, TAMU might just be for real. The Aggies went head to head with the Razorbacks for much of the game, but pulled away late in the second half. Trevor Knight has been a major spark for not only the offense, but for the team as a whole. The Aggie defense is still coming up big, lead by likely top 10 draft pick Myles Garrett. The Aggies have the Gamecocks next week, who they should blow out.
Washington Huskies UW passed their first test of the season, a road game at Arizona that went into OT. Rich Rod does not make it easy on visiting teams. UW had a fantastic day on the ground, and an average day through the air. It was an ugly win for sure, but good teams find ways to win ugly games. Stanford comes to Seattle next week, which will be one of the biggest games for the Huskies in years.
Miami Hurricanes BYE week
Baylor Bears Baylor finally played a real team, and passed their first test. Ok State fought until the end, but couldn't top the Bears. Baylor doesn't have another test for a few weeks, as they have Iowa State and Kansas in the next 2 weeks.
Tennessee Volunteers It only took 11 years, but the Vols finally got the Gator off their back after a huge 21 points 4th quarter. Despite their big win, this Tennessee team is still a big mystery. Josh Dobbs is still an average at best QB. They didn't limp to a win in this one, but it's still important to note that Florida's starting QB did not play in this game.
Utah Utes The Utes got a big win for their program by beating the USC Adoree Jacksons in a Friday night thriller. USC may be 1-3, but they still had some fight in them, and this game went down to the wire. The Utes travel to Cal next week. Can their defense contain the Bear Raid offense?
Florida State Seminoles If Florida State wants to keep winning they are going to have to put up a lot of points on offense. Their defense is still very susceptible to giving up big plays. The Noles got UNC next week, who have a solid offense. This is a must win game for Florida State if they want to contend for the ACC title.
Nebraska Cornhuskers Nebraska traveled to Evanston (which is basically a home game) and took out a Northwestern team that has been a thorn in their side since they joined the Big Ten. Thanks to some shoddy kicking by the Cats, Nebraska wasn't in too much danger of losing this game. Not a bad way to start Big Ten play for the Huskers.
Michigan State Spartans How good are the Michigan State Spartans? They looked flat against Furman, followed that up with a great performance against a bad ND team in South Bend, then fell flat on their faces against Wisconsin in East Lansing. This doesn't look like Dantonio squads of the past few seasons. Michigan State definitely looks to be on the outside of the Big Ten East division at this point in time.
Texas Longhorns BYE week
West Virginia Mountaineers West Virginia beat the BYU Mormons (who are not as bad as their 1-3 record would have you think). BYU couldn't complete their late comeback. Nice win for the Mountaineers. TBD if couches are burning.
Florida Gators Florida lost by 10 on the road to hated rival Tennessee without their starting QB. If it wasn't for a 4th quarter meltdown, Florida would've won that game. Still, the season isn't over for the Gators. The SEC East is so bad they could still find their way to Atlanta again.
Ole Miss Rebels Great things happen when you play two halves of football. Ole Miss took out a lot of frustration on UGA and blew them out of the water. Chad Kelly and Ole Miss's high powered offense put up a ton of yards and points. The Rebel's defense was shutdown, only giving up 14 points. Don't be surprised if Ole Miss wins out.
Colorado Buffaloes Colorado got a huge win for the program over Oregon in Autzen. It was not too long ago Chip Kelly's Ducks beat Colorado 70-14. The Buffaloes seem to be on the rise. Don't be surprised if they play spoiler to some other PAC 12 teams.
Arizona State Sun Devils Arizona survived against a solid Cal team, and iced the game by successfully running back an onside kick. ASU now has 2 decent wins over Texas Tech and Cal. They travel to LA next week to face 1-3 USC, and they should handle business against the Trojans.
Western Michigan Broncos Western Michigan take out Georgia Southern and are still the team to beat in the MAC. This team has a very real chance of going 12-0. Can they surpass Houston in the polls though to lock up that G5 NYE6 bowl slot?
Iowa Hawkeyes Iowa won ugly, but they won. The Hawkeye defense played fairly well. They still gave up big plays up the middle, and gave up a big amount of rush yards. However, the most important stat was the 7 points they gave up. The Iowa offense, and play calling, was frankly pathetic. The response to losing to an FCS team was piss poor by both the team and coaching staff. If they want to contend for the Big Ten West, they need to stop acting like an entitled team. This team is not good enough to win by simply showing up. That said, this team still has a lot of talent.
