Ballot Type: Human
Submitted: Sept. 18, 2016, 12:46 p.m.
Overall Rationale: Mix of which teams I think are better and which ones have done what this season. There are a clear top 8 IMO and then the rest.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Louisville Cardinals | Beat down FSU worse than Syracuse. Makes the Bama-USC game look tame. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Came back from a big deficit, but had a harder time of it than FSU did. I know transitive property isn't accurate, but when comparing the common opponent and then what Louisville did to FSU it's hard to not rank Louisville ahead. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Better win over OU than Houston. Look completely dominant at every facet of the game.  |
| Michigan Wolverines | Really outplayed what might actually be a pretty decent Colorado team for three quarters in their first real test of the season.  |
| Houston Cougars | Is Cincinnati good is the real question, also the OU win took a hit when OSU does it better and in Norman. |
| Stanford Cardinal | Two games two wins. Nothing flashy, but McCaffrey is playing well as usual.  |
| Texas A&M Aggies | The Aggies have a better win over Auburn and a ranked win over UCLA. Better performance than Clemson through three games. |
| Clemson Tigers | I hate hate hate moving teams up when they play FCS teams, but simply due to making my poll easier to fill out I'm doing it. Thus far though Clemson has looked the least like a contender out of the top teams IMO. Not impressed by beating a team that literally throws the football into the endzone to gift you a touchdown. |
| Nebraska Cornhuskers | Oregon was dealing with some injuries, namely Freeman, but Nebraska is one of the better second half teams this year so far. There's no reason they shouldn't be 7-0 before the Wisconsin game. |
| Washington Huskies | The win over Rutgers is looking slightly better. Which sounds ridiculous but there it is. The Huskies are here on potential and not on field performance thus far as the level of competition has been terrible. Huge three game stretch coming up. |
| Michigan State Spartans | Tried their hardest to blow a huge lead, but in the end they just couldn't beat themselves. Big game against Wisconsin this week. If they win they should cruise to 7-0 before hosting Michigan. |
| Arkansas Razorbacks | Completely dominated a team they were supposed to? What? Maybe Arkansas has finally started to play their end-of-year type of football early. If so then holy shit does it make the SECW more interesting. |
| Wisconsin Badgers | Struggled against Georgia State. Curse of being #9 or does it make the win over LSU look more like a fluke? Saturday should tell us a lot when they head to East Lansing. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | I have no idea whether this team is good or bad. The win over VT looks a little better this week though. |
| Western Michigan Broncos | Two B1G wins. Gotta give credit to the team that is technically leading the conference. PJ Fleck has them playing incredible football and the MAC has three really good teams this year.  |
| Miami Hurricanes | I know they have the much better win over App State, but Tennessee's win over VT keeps them in front. For now.  |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | Really should be undefeated. High scoring affair with Pitt for a solid looking win. Big 12 play starts now and the defense will need to improve a bit. |
| Boise State Broncos | After a bye week they stay about the same. The week one win looks a bit better. Plus the Wazzu win. Boise and SDSU should roll through the MWC. |
| UCLA Bruins | Nothing too impressive, but solid football and really should be considered the front runners for the south. But here comes Stanford and getting beaten by them might as well be a tradition at this point. |
| San Diego State Aztecs | The win against Cal looks better. Pumphrey is the truth. Only reason I have Boise and UCLA ahead is I think they're less one dimensional. |
| Florida Gators | Might've lost Del Rio for the season. Beat a bad team. I think 21 is fair for now. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | I don't understand Georgia. Two wins by a total of three points the last two games, but a win's a win and it was on the road. |
| Utah Utes | Undefeated, but haven't really played anyone. Pac-12 play starting now should tell us if they're divisional contenders. |
| Baylor Bears | Same boat as Utah. They don't look anything like last year's Bears but conference play should sort things out with the immediate test against the Pokes. |
| Army West Point | Hello 3-0 Army. Gets the nod over an FSU team who didn't even have a pulse. Over a Texas team who's win over ND took a hit and despite the controversial call shouldn't have given up a 50 yard run on 3rd&1. Over a two loss Ole Miss and OU and ND. Over a TCU without a good win. Over Iowa that stupidly played NDSU. Army deserves a ton of credit for what they've done so far.  |
